Are butter candles safe? How to do the TikTok trend the right way

This trend will really butter your biscuit.
TikTokers are fawning over the latest fire food fad: Butter candles.
Akin to a Panera bread bowl, content creators are making candle sticks out of sticks of ghee — complete with a wick — and placing them, lighted, into a loaf of bread that has been hallowed in the middle.
The search for the aforementioned “butter candle” has scored 7.7 million views on TikTok, as users share how they craft the delectable snack.
But experts warn that this decadent treat could go awry, and advise using an edible wick and never leaving the flame unattended.
“The main concern with putting together a butter candle is the wick,” chef and Churn Foods founder Michael Tashman told Delish.
“Most wicks are made of cotton or wood, with some even having a metal core, which aren’t ideal to accidentally eat as you may have a little bit (or a lot) of indigestion on your hands.”
So to stay safe, Tashman noted that “your best bet is to buy edible wicks made of organic hemp and beeswax that you can find on Amazon or in a craft store.”
